• 1-¾ cup sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup mashed bananas
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • cup butter or margarine
  • cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup cherries, chopped


Sift first three ingredients together. In a separate bowl, mash bananas, add baking soda, and let stand for several minutes.

Cream butter and sugar, beat in eggs, then alternately add flour and banana mixtures, beating each addition well. Add cherries, mix well, then place in a greased bread pan. Bake at 350°F for one hour, until a knife tests clean at the center. Cool briefly, turn out on rack, serve while warm.
