An unusual and tasty, classic American condiment.

Ingredients

  • 75 medium-sized plums
  • 6-¾ cups sugar (3 lbs)
  • 2 cups vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon allspice
  • 1 tablespoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon salt

Directions

Wash plums, slice and pit. Combine all ingredients in a kettle, bring to boil and stir until sugar dissolves. Simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, then pour into jars and seal.
